Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 September 2026
This policy explains what personal data Silk Road ("we") collects through thesilkroad.app, why, and what rights you have.
1. What we collect
- Account data: name, email address, password (stored only as a salted hash), and optionally phone number and gender.
- Order data: what you ask us to do, links and documents you attach, messages you exchange with our team, quotes and payment status.
- Technical data: IP address, approximate country derived from it, browser and device information, the language you use, and the times you register and sign in.
- Payment data: online payments are processed by Creem (merchant of record); we receive only the payment status and amount and never see or store card or wallet details.
2. Why we use it
- To provide the Service: reviewing, quoting and executing your orders and communicating with you about them.
- To keep the Service secure: preventing fraud and abuse, and complying with legal obligations.
- To improve the Service: understanding which languages and order types are used.
We do not sell personal data and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
3. Who we share it with
- Our staff and contractors in China who carry out your task, limited to what the task requires.
- Suppliers, carriers and customs brokers, when necessary to buy, ship or clear goods for you (for example, a delivery name and address).
- Service providers that host the website, database and email (currently Cloudflare), bound by confidentiality obligations.
- Authorities, when required by law.
4. International transfers
We operate from China and use infrastructure located in several countries. By using the Service you understand that your data may be processed outside your country. We apply appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
5. Retention
Account and order records are kept for as long as your account exists and for the period required by tax and commercial law afterwards (typically 5–7 years for order and payment records). You may ask us to delete your account earlier; we will delete or anonymise data we are not legally required to keep.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to complain to a supervisory authority. To exercise these rights, email hi@thesilkroad.app from the address on your account.
7. Cookies
We use only strictly necessary cookies: one to keep you signed in and one to remember your language. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
8. Children
The Service is intended for adults and businesses. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
9. Changes
We may update this policy; the current version is always available on this page. This policy is written in English; translations are provided for convenience only and the English version prevails.
